We start your expedition with an early morning pick-up directly from your hotel in Cusco. We begin our scenic journey south toward the high Andean plains, passing traditional villages and picturesque farming valleys surrounded by majestic mountains.

Enjoy a freshly cooked Andean buffet breakfast in Cusipata featuring hot coffee, herbal teas, fresh bread, and scrambled eggs. Next, we visit the stunning four high-altitude lakes: Pomacanchi, Acopia, Asnaqocha, and Pampamarca. This area is home to diverse bird species including Andean geese, flamingos, and hummingbirds.

We arrive at the awe-inspiring Apurímac River canyon. Q’eswachaka is the last handwoven Inca suspension bridge in the world, crafted from braided ichu grass. You will learn about the ancient annual renewal ritual performed by 4 local Quechua communities and have the thrilling opportunity to cross the bridge safely above the turquoise river.

After exploring and photographing the canyon, we enjoy a hearty buffet lunch featuring regional specialties with panoramic views. We then relax on our return drive to Cusco, arriving back around 05:30 PM near the historic Plaza de Armas.

01

Is it safe to cross the Q'eswachaka Rope Bridge?

Yes, absolutely. The bridge is rebuilt every year in June by master weavers from four native Quechua communities using ancestral engineering techniques. It is structurally sound and supported by massive braided rope cables anchored into solid rock.

02

How much physical walking or hiking is involved?

This is a low-difficulty tour. Most travel is done by comfortable private transport, with only short, easy walks (5 to 10 minutes) from the parking area down to the bridge viewpoints and lakeshores.

03

What is the maximum altitude reached during the excursion?

The highest point along the route is approximately 3,700 meters (12,140 feet) around the high lakes plateau. The bridge itself sits at 3,600 meters in the canyon. Our vehicle is equipped with oxygen in case of mild altitude discomfort.

04
